Even though the proposed fight between Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather has been dragging on for months, the two fellas still manage to keep it interesting, don't they? Every time something new is said people dive on it and we all get excited.

So, it seems like McGregor knew exactly what he was doing when he promised to knock out Mayweather last night.

He was present at Madison Square Garden in New York, to watch Michael Conlan secure his first professional win. And, naturally, it wasn't long before reporters asked about the highly-anticipated fight.

Speaking to a reporter, he said: "What's your name? You're a boxing guy? I'm the boxing guy! Watch me take over boxing, trust me on that.

"No one in this boxing game knows what's coming.

"When I step in there, I am going to shock the whole god damn world, trust me on that!"

McGregor will be swapping the Octagon for the ring to face the unbeaten former world champ, who has said he will be coming out of retirement for the match.

He then went on to say: "Look me in the eyes, 28 years of age, confident as a mother fucker, long, rangy, dangerous with every hand.

"Trust me, I'm going to stop Floyd and the whole world is going to eat their words."

When asked when the fight will take place, McGregor said: "We're getting close. You'll hear about it." How exciting is this?

Last December Mayweather took to Instagram to call out McGregor.

While streaming, Mayweather said: "I don't give a fuck what night it was, I ain't never takin' no L. I'm fucking McGregor up, too. Punk ass McGregor, I'm gonna slap the shit out of McGregor when I see him."

Just last week, rumours that a date and venue had been set for the fight had started circulating online.

Flo Combat reckons that we should be keeping our diaries free on 10 June, as the pair will meet at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

According to the site, the venue has been reserved for the 10 June while a deal between the two is met.

The toing and froing between the pair has been going on for months, but now it looks like the most anticipated fight of the year could actually be happening.

I can't wait.
