Floyd Mayweather has sparked our interest after a chance meeting with old foe Manny Pacquiao led to him claiming that he's making a comeback to face the Filipino in a rematch.

Tonight Saul Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Gennadyevich Golovkin go head to head for their rematch from this time last year. The fight in September 2017 was an instant classic but at times in the build up it was outshone by Floyd Mayweather's fight against Conor McGregor just two weeks before.

A year after Canelo and GGG had their epic and controversial draw, and after more controversy this time over the Mexican's failed drug test delayed the rematch, Mayweather threatens to overshadow the whole affair once again.

Mayweather came out of retirement last year to face McGregor in a fight that intrigued the world with the Irishman moving from MMA to boxing and the win for the American took him to a record of 50-0 in professional fights.

He once again slipped into retirement and there's been little to no talk of yet another comeback, until now. At the weigh in for tonight's fight Mayweather and Pacquiao bumped into each other with 'Money' claiming he was making a comeback in December:

Mayweather can be heard saying, ""I'm coming back in December," adding a caption to the video on Instagram saying, "I'm coming back to fight Manny Pacquiao this year. Another 9 figure pay day on the way ."

As said Mayweather hasn't fought since he stopped McGregor just over a year ago, neither has the Notorious, but Pacquiao, has been in action.

The 39 year old has had four fights since losing to Mayweather. He beat Timothy Bradley on his comeback and the won the WBO welterweight title against Jessie Vargas.

His third fight was a surprise loss to Australian Jeff Horn although Pacquiao's team tried to get the controversial points decision reversed. Most recently he won the WBA (regular) title from Lucas Matthysse in July.

Last time the pair fought Pacquiao suffered a shoulder injury as Mayweather retained the WBA (Super), WBC, The Ring, and lineal welterweight titles and won the WBO title.

A rematch between Mayweather and Pacquiao could put an end to Amir Khan's dreams of facing the Filipino once again.

Tonight though will belong to Canelo and GGG, the two men who have taken up the mantle since the elder pairs rivalry ended as the hottest rivalry in boxing.

Much like a Mayweather vs Pacquiao rematch it's a fight between an unbeaten fighter and one who's lost to Mayweather.
