Gennady Golovkin and Saul Canelo Alvarez look set to face each other for a third time after reports that the pair have verbally agreed to their trilogy fight in September.
The two middleweights faced in two controversial fights in September 2017 and 2018, with a draw in the first and a points decision to Canelo in the second, and could now face in their trilogy fight this year.
It's all according to the Athletic who report that the two parties have agreed verbally to the fight, which is expected to be on September 12th at the AT&T Stadium, outside Dallas, although the date and venue aren't confirmed yet.
Canelo was meant to be taking on Britain's Billy Joe Saunders for the WBO super-middleweight title on May 2nd but the current outbreak of Covid-19 had already delayed that fight.

The new date for the Mexican to fight BJS is meant to be in June, making it still possible for a September fight with GGG, but should there be any further delays due to the pandemic then Canelo could jump straight to the trilogy fight against the Kazakh.
Alvarez, according to the report, is due to receive 'enhanced' compensation from representatives Golden Boy Promotions for the trilogy fight.
The Oscar de la Hoya owned promotion agreed with streaming site DAZN that there would be a third fight but 'Canelo' had no such agreement in his contract with the service.

DAZN signed the current Ring pound-for-pound number one to a $350 million 10 fight deal in 2018, after the second fight with GGG.
The fight with Saunders had yet to be made official and with the spread of Coronavirus, and multiple other sports being cancelled or suspended, the initial 'agreed' date is to be pushed back until at least June.
Golovkin could have the same fate with his expected IBF middleweight defence against Kamil Szeremeta with their fight not expected until the beginning of June.

Should Canelo and GGG agree a third fight it could be boxing's biggest fight of the year, potentially eclipsing the Tyson Fury vs Deontay Wilder rematch from February which itself is expected for a trilogy in the summer.
On Tuesday the domestic heavyweight fight between Daniel Dubois and Joe Joyce was rescheduled from April to July whilst Josh Taylor's May fight has also been postponed.
