Max Verstappen makes entire studio burst into laughter with response to safety car question after Miami Grand Prix

Max Verstappen was beaten by Lando Norris at the Miami Grand Prix.

Max Verstappen delivered an epic response to a question about the safety car during the Miami Grand Prix.

On Sunday, reigning Formula 1 world champion Verstappen looked like he was going to ease to another victory after a brilliant start to the race.

However, after an incident involving Haas' Kevin Magnussen and Williams driver Logan Sargeant, the safety car was brought out at the worst possible time for Verstappen, who had recently pitted for new tyres.

The safety car deployment allowed McLaren driver Lando Norris to do a much quicker stop, eventually leading to him winning his maiden F1 race.

During his press conference after the race, Verstappen was asked whether the race would have been different if the safety car was not needed.

He said: “It’s always if, if, if, if my mum had balls, she’d be my dad.”

Sitting beside Verstappen, Norris and Charles Leclerc were seen laughing at the Dutchman’s response.

After finally recording his first race win, a jubilant Norris said: “I don't know what I'm feeling! I'm just happy, proud. It feels like it's been a long time coming. I feel like we've had many opportunities. We've been getting closer and closer.

“We've never been able to put it all together and today was that day. We've been good all weekend. As much as we had some setbacks - Friday Qualifying, the Sprint, not the best Qualifying on Saturday, I stayed positive. And that's rare!”

He added: “It all just came together. We were quick all day. I had a good strategy, a good plan. I stayed out of the way of trouble in Turn One because it was very close. I just focused on our race and we were quick.

“Of course, we got a bit lucky with the Safety Car. But even after, the pace was the best on track by quite a long way. I have to say thanks to the team. Without this, it wouldn't be possible.”

F1 will return in a couple of weeks’ time with the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix in Imola.
