We've been hearing about the Ballon d'Or all day as France Football has drip fed the 30 man shortlist for this year's prize. However the newspaper have definitely missed some very big names out of their list.
The award is quite an odd thing in football that has picked up more importance in the last few years in the age of Messi, Ronaldo and social media. A singular award shouldn't matter as much as it does in a team sport but that's the world we live in.
Whilst we were always expecting the likes of Luis Suarez, Antoine Griezmann and Gareth Bale to join Ronaldo and Messi on the list it's good to see the likes of Diego Godin, Riyad Mahrez, Jamie Vardy and Dimitri Payet be recognised for their fantastic years.

However despite the fact that the French newspaper has made plenty of correct calls in their 30 man list they've missed some players who should definitely be there.

David de Gea continues to insert himself in the best goalkeeper in the world conversation with incredible performances for Manchester United.

In defence Alaba, Bonucci, Pique and Juanfran have easily been amongst the best in their positions this season.
It's incredible that N'Golo Kante continues to be under appreciated in awards whilst Aaron Ramsey's performances in Euro 2016 for Wales alone mean he deserves to be on the list.
Angel di Maria returned to his best for PSG whilst Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez helped Arsenal to second in the league and Sanchez again won the Copa America with Chile.
Karim Benzema helped Real Madrid win their second Champions League final in three years.
