Roberto Firmino couldn't believe what he'd just seen.

Goal celebrations are important. Get it right, like Emmanuel Adebayor against Arsenal, and you will be remembered only for good. Get it wrong, like Alan Shearer for Newcastle everytime he scored, and you'll be instantly forgotten. Roberto Firmino today had a nightmare.

Everyone loves a goal celebration and as kids we all practice them, probably more than we actually attempt to score or at least more often than we actually do put the ball between the jumpers- that is if you've ever seen me play.

Alan Shearer celebrates the only way he knows!

The Andy Cole jumping fist pump was a personal favourite, especially when playing on gravel because it wasn't advisable to attempt that Jurgen Klinsmann dive or much vaunted knee slide in such situations.

The main thing to remember about goal celebrations is they only work if someone has scored!

Roberto Firmino seemed to forget this today as he embarrassingly seemed to start celebrating as Adam Lallana attempted a shot during Liverpool's game with Manchester City but unfortunately for the Brazilian Lallana actually failed to make a proper connection:

Now some might argue that Firmino clearly sees Lallana not score and it's not a knee slide but falling to his knees, I say watch again.

The former Hoffenheim midfielder clearly looks like he's celebrating before taking one final look back only to notice that the ball has indeed not found the back of the net.

At that point you can just about make out in the bottom left hand corner the player put his hands to his mouth and looking shocked as he finally realises the truth.

Poor Firmino has had a mare there!
