Italian midfielder Nicolo Barella attempted to hit the ball into the crowd in frustration last night, but ended up hitting a Greek ball boy straight in the face.

The 22-year-old had endured a frustrating evening so far, so attempted to relieve it by hoofing the ball as hard as he could into the Athens Olympic Stadium.

However, one unlucky ball boy found himself in the wrong place at the wrong time and took the full force of the strike into his face.

Check out the video below.

That must have hurt the young lad.

Although the ball boy was down for a while, he managed to get up seconds later and shake it off.

Barella also came to the youngsters aid to check if he was fine.

Twitter also reacted with sympathy for the ball boy.

Ironically, Barella's frustration ended moments later when he scored the opening goal in the Euro 2020 qualifier.

Lorenzo Insigne and Leonardo Bonucci also scored in the same 10 minute period to give the Italian's a comfortable 3-0 victroy.

Roberto Mancini's side now find themselves top of Group J with three wins in three.

When asked about his performance, Cagliari midfielder Barella praised midfield partners Marco Verratti and Jorginho, claiming the two are 'phenomenons'.

Speaking to Rai Sport per Football Italia, he explained,

"Jorginho and Verratti are two phenomenons. Anyone who plays with them will inevitably do well. I got a bit angry with myself because I missed the chance for a second goal."

Italy will play Bosnia on Tuesday night hoping to make it four wins out of four in their group.

It's safe to assume that most of the ball boys will be keeping clear of Barella's punts in that game.
