Alan Shearer's wife asked 'what the f*** have you done' ahead of transfer move

Alan Shearer's wife asked 'what the f*** have you done' ahead of transfer move

Alan Shearer was driving in the car when the conversation with his wife, Lainya, happened.

Former Newcastle United and England striker Alan Shearer has recalled his wife's reaction as they drove through the town of Blackburn for the first time.

Shearer, who is regarded by many as one of the Premier League's all-time greats, joined the ranks at Ewood Park from Southampton in 1992 for a record-breaking £3.6 million.

He would go on to score 112 goals in 138 appearances for Rovers as he helped Kenny Dalglish's side to a historic domestic title in 1994/95.

But ahead of his move north, Shearer's wife, Lainya, was on the verge of tears.

Speaking on The Rest Is Football podcast alongside Gary Lineker and Micah Richards, the 53-year-old Match of the Day pundit set the scene as they started their new life away from Southampton.

The segment began when fan Scott Wright asked the following question: "What culture did you take in when in Florence, Micah, in Barcelona, Gary, and in Blackburn, Alan?"

Shearer soon replied: "I told you what happened when I was driving through Blackburn for the first time with my missus... when she was eight months pregnant and looked at me in the car and said, 'What the f*** have you done?'"

Shearer has previously spoken about the conversation with his wife on their podcast.

He explained: "Some of the places [we were looking at to buy houses] weren't the greatest of places and she burst into tears and says 'What the f*** have you done to me?'

"I told her 'Don't worry it'll work out, it'll be alright', and it was."

Micah Richards soon opened up on his move to Fiorentina, after he joined the Italian club on a season-long loan deal from Manchester City in 2014.

"I took in the drinking culture," he laughed. "No, I think Florence taught me how to live a little bit. We've spoken so much about me wasting money, and spraying champagne.

"But when I went to Florence, it's just... it's the language of love. When they talk, it's like singing. When I went there, there was red wine and it was always sunny. Everything about it was calm."

Lineker, meanwhile, revealed that his wife enjoyed opera during his time in Barcelona. "It's a beautiful place with art galleries and museums."

Alan Shearer would later give his brutally honest thoughts on a celebrity boxing fight between him and former Manchester United captain Roy Keane.
