Arsenal make Auston Trusty 'transfer decision' amid interest from Sheffield United

Arsenal make Auston Trusty 'transfer decision' amid interest from Sheffield United

Trusty joined Arsenal from MLS side Colorado Rapids in 2022.

Mikel Arteta has made a decision on Auston Trusty's Arsenal future amid interest from Sheffield United.

Trusty, 24, joined the Gunners in 2022 from Major League Soccer (MLS) side Colorado Rapids in a deal worth a reported £1.5 million.

He spent last season on loan at Championship side Birmingham where he excelled and was voted Player of the Season by Blues supporters.

He has since returned to north London and was part of Arsenal’s pre-season tour to the United States, although he did not feature against either Manchester United or Barcelona.

Meanwhile, the Gunners have decided they are willing to let him go, with the USA international seemingly surplus to requirements.

Arsenal have spent over £200 million new recruits this summer, with Arteta understandably keen to recoup some of the money he has spent on players.

In addition, the arrival of Jurrien Timber has all but diminished Trusty's chances of playing first-team football. In turn, Arsenal would consider loaning out the defender for another season or accepting a permanent offer, according to the Evening Standard.

Who could sign Trusty?

Birmingham boss John Eustace was keen to bring him back to Birmingham City after a stellar season with the club, but they could face competition from Swansea City, Rangers and Sheffield United.

Sheffield United have reportedly edged ahead in the race to sign Trusty, as they look to bolster their back line ahead of their return to the top-flight.

Blades reporter Darren Smith claims Paul Heckingbottom’s side have 'reached a £5 million agreement' to sign Trusty from Arsenal, with personal terms yet to be agreed.

Fellow Arsenal defenders Cedric Soares and Rob Holding have also been heavily rumoured with am ove away from the Emirates, as Arteta eyes a major defensive clear out. Meanwhile, No. 2 goalkeeper Matt Turner has been linked with a move to Nottingham Forest.
