Former Man Utd and Spurs striker Dimitar Berbatov has named the Premier League player he thinks is his closest match in terms of ability.

Dimitar Berbatov has named the Premier League star who he thinks is his closest match in terms of ability.

The former Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur and Fulham striker scored 94 goals during his eight-year spell in England.

His most prolific period was at United, particularly in the 2010/11 season where he won the Golden Boot scoring 20 goals as the club lifted a record-breaking 19th league title.

It's hard to imagine many being on a par with the Bulgarian striker but Berbatov himself has named one current Arsenal player who he thinks has similarities to him as a player.

While working as a pundit for Malaysian TV channel Astro SuperSport on their Premier League coverage, Berbatov named Kai Havertz as the current Premier League player who is his closest match.

"I don't like comparing but, to answer the question, the first name popping into my mind is Kai Havertz," Berbatov said.

"He has that way of moving around the pitch, he watches, he studies and takes his time."

Both Berbatov and Havertz made their mark at German side Bayer Leverkusen before moving to the Premier League but the Bulgarian insisted that wasn't the reason why he chose him.

In a three-year spell at Chelsea, Havertz became a key player and lifted the Champions League with the Blues in 2021, scoring the only goal in the final.

He made a shock move to Arsenal this summer for £65 million and has scored four goals in 17 appearances so far this season as Mikel Arteta's side look to challenge for the Premier League title.

While he has made a big impact at key moments, there are still question marks about Havertz's ability as a prolific goalscorer.

He hasn't reached double figures in any of his seasons in England's top flight so he still has a long way to go if he is to truly match Berbatov in that department.
