Ian Maatsen angers Chelsea fans with 'now deleted' message to Man Utd star after Old Trafford defeat

Ian Maatsen angers Chelsea fans with 'now deleted' message to Man Utd star after Old Trafford defeat

Ian Maatsen has angered Chelsea fans with a careless Instagram comment.

Chelsea full-back Ian Maatsen has angered the club's fans with a social media post he made after the Blues' latest defeat.

Chelsea suffered a disappointing 2-1 loss to Manchester United at Old Trafford on Wednesday as Scott McTominay scored either side of Cole Palmer's first half strike.

The defeat was Chelsea's second in three games since the November international break, and one that leaves Mauricio Pochettino's side tenth in the Premier League table, 11 points off the top four.

The result wasn't the only thing Chelsea supporters were angry about though. After the match, full-back Maatsen sparked fury when he reportedly commented on an Instagram post made by United's Sofyan Amrabat.

Amrabat took to Instagram to celebrate a crucial United win, posting a photo with the caption: "Great spirit and great performance! Thanks for the amazing support."

Maatsen, who was an unused substitute at Old Trafford, took the unwise decision to reply to Amrabat's post by posting a 'fire emoji' and a 'saluting emoji' in the comments section, according to the Daily Mail.

It is claimed that the Dutch star's comment has since been deleted.

Given that United had beaten Chelsea just hours earlier, it didn't go down well at all with Chelsea fans.

"Safe to say Ian Maatsen's career at Chelsea is now over," one Chelsea supporter fumed on X, formerly Twitter.

"Ian Maatsen commenting on a post made by Sofyan Amrabat about United winning yesterday. Absolute joke," said another.

One fan tried to give the 21-year-old the benefit of the doubt. "It must be a mistake from Ian Maatsen or his social media team, surely, as I'm hoping players read the room in situations like this and stay away from stuff like this."

Maatsen may already be skating on thin ice without the help of his social media antics. The Dutchman hasn't started any of Chelsea's 15 league games this season, and the club were reportedly keen to offload him to Burnley over the summer on a loan with an option to buy for £31.5m.

Maatsen chose to stay at Stamford Bridge, but he's yet to show that that was the right decision.
