Chelsea suffer injury nightmare as forgotten summer signing ruled out for the season

Chelsea suffer injury nightmare as forgotten summer signing ruled out for the season

He has suffered yet another setback.

One Chelsea star's injury nightmare looks set to continue after he was ruled out for the rest of the season.

Chelsea have had an underwhelming season despite spending over £400 million on new signings last summer.

Mauricio Pochettino's side are currently 11th in the Premier League table with just 11 games left to play, and face an uphill battle to secure European football next season.

Despite struggling in the league, Chelsea did reach the final of the Carabao Cup last month, and have an FA Cup semi-final against Manchester City to look forward to in April.

After enjoying a run of improved results, Chelsea will head into the Wembley clash a little more confident than they might have done a few months ago.

However, one of their summer signings won't be able to help their quest to end the season with a trophy in the cabinet.

Chelsea have confirmed that Romeo Lavia will miss the rest of the season after suffering a setback while recovering from a thigh injury.

The news means the 20-year-old will end his first campaign at Stamford Bridge with just one appearance under his belt.

Chelsea signed Lavia from Southampton last summer in a £60 million deal after he rejected an approach from Liverpool, but his time in West London has been blighted by injury.

The former Manchester City man suffered a muscle injury shortly after joining Chelsea, then picked up an ankle issue that kept him out until December.

Lavia finally made his club debut on December 27 in a 2-1 win against Crystal Palace, but after coming off the bench he suffered an injury in the same match.

Medical staff at Chelsea had hoped the Belgian youngster would return this month, but Chelsea fans now won't see him in action again until next season.

Pochettino has had to deal with a number of injury issues this term, although the likes of Carney Chukwuemeka, Malo Gusto and Levi Colwill could return for Saturday's home clash with Burnley.
