Forgotten Liverpool forward loved by Jurgen Klopp suffers new injury setback, he hasn't played for nearly two years

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has been dealt another injury blow

A forgotten Liverpool star that Jurgen Klopp rated highly has suffered another injury setback.

Back in February 2021, Liverpool paid a reported fee of £3 million to sign highly-rated youngster Kaide Gordon from Derby County.

Gordon went on to become the second-youngest player to score for Liverpool after netting against Shrewsbury Town in the FA Cup back in January 2022.

A week after scoring his first goal for the club, the winger made his Premier League debut against Brentford before becoming the youngest-ever Liverpool player to start a major semi-final.

Gordon featured during Liverpool’s League Cup second-leg victory against Arsenal.

However, after a promising start, Gordon has been suffering from a pelvic problem that has been linked to his physical growth.

After more than 18 months on the sidelines, Gordon made his return earlier in the month for Liverpool U21s’ Premier League 2 clash against Middlesbrough.

However, during that match, Gordon suffered another injury blow as he rolled his ankle and is expected to be ruled out for at least two weeks.

After Gordon scored his first goal for the Reds, manager Jurgen Klopp said: “That’s Kaide. In these situations, he’s really calm. I will not say that for the rest of career he’ll always score in these situations, but I’m pretty sure [he will] more often than not!

“Because that’s just him, when a cross comes from the left side, you will find him in the box. He’s good there as well – he has a nose for that, that’s really helpful.”

Klopp continued: “I know he’s the second-youngest goalscorer for Liverpool, which is absolutely exceptional, but there’s a way to go.

“No problem, Kaide has time, we will give him time, he will have his minutes here and there, and if he’s working as hard as he has so far…

“Because not to forget, he only just came back from Covid as well. I think he had two or three proper sessions, that’s it. It’s really not easy then to show up in a game like this, but he did and all credit to him.”
