Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville clash over Liverpool fans and Anfield atmosphere ahead of Arsenal clash

Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville clash over Liverpool fans and Anfield atmosphere ahead of Arsenal clash

Jurgen Klopp's comments about Liverpool's atmosphere has led to a debate between Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville.

Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville have engaged in a social media spat following Jurgen Klopp's stinging comments about Liverpool's atmosphere.

On Wednesday night, Liverpool destroyed West Ham 5-1 at Anfield to set up a Carabao Cup semi-final with Fulham.

Curtis Jones bagged a brace, with Dominik Szoboszlai, Cody Gakpo and Mo Salah also on target in the rout.

But Klopp wasn't all that happy after the game. He proceeded to slam the lack of atmosphere at Anfield and told fans to give away their tickets if they are not ready to be vocal.

The German also issued a rallying cry to the fans going into the huge clash with Arsenal at the weekend.

"I was not overly happy with the atmosphere behind me," Klopp said in his press conference.

"I ask people 'what do you want?' so we change a lot of things we dominate West Ham like crazy, we miss chances.

“I would be in the stands, I would be on my toes, 100 percent. If the Manchester United game was that bad that we have to say 'oh sorry' that we did not smash them. We need Anfield on Saturday.

“From the first second without me having an argument with the opposition coach, we need you from the first second! If it is too much football in December, I do not know we have to play it as well.

“If you are not in the right shape, give your ticket to somebody else."

After Klopp's rant, United legend Neville could not resist using it as a dig at Liverpool fans and tagged Carragher.

Neville had spoken about how "quiet" Anfield was on Sunday despite the opening of a new stand and said it was "the worst atmosphere" for a meeting with United.

He tweeted: "Those Liverpool fans having a pop at me about the atmosphere v United are a bit quiet this morning @Carra23."

United goalkeeper Onana said he "felt nothing" when asked about his experience at Anfield.

But according to Caragher, Klopp's atmosphere chat was deliberate and done in an attempt to get the Liverpool fans up for a key clash.

He replied: "All mind games for Saturday! Atmosphere was a bit flat v Man United because we expected to win easily because you lot are so bad……last night was absolutely fine. Jurgen knows all this & the power of Anfield. Compare his results at Anfield with a full stadium to the Covid season!"

Liverpool take on Arsenal at 17:30 on Saturday in a battle between the league's top two.
