Man Utd have sent their 'new sporting director to watch Mason Greenwood in action' as potential return discussed

Manchester United sent Mason Greenwood out to Getafe on loan for the 23/24 season

Manchester United’s reported new sporting director was spotted watching Mason Greenwood in action for Getafe.

In August, it was confirmed that Greenwood and United have mutually agreed that the 22-year-old would continue his career away from Old Trafford.

On transfer deadline day, Greenwood confirmed a loan move to Spanish La Liga side Getafe for the 23/24 season.

Last month, it was reported that Greenwood has made a decision on his future.

According to The Sun, Greenwood would like to extend his stay with the Spanish club.

A source told the publication: “The players and fans have all given him a welcome he could only have dreamed of.

“He really feared his career was over. Now he’s just so happy and wants to carry on playing and not think too far ahead.”

The Sun had previously reported that Greenwood was set to return to the fold at United before the Old Trafford club made a U-turn after facing backlash from fans.

However, it has now been reported that one of United’s potential new sporting director targets, Paul Mitchell, was in attendance to watch Greenwood in action during Getafe’s 1-0 win over Cadiz on Monday.

According to Spanish news outlet Mundo Deportivo, Mitchell was in the stands of the Coliseum to witness the La Liga clash and was reportedly left impressed by what he saw of Greenwood.

Since leaving French Ligue 1 club AS Monaco last month, Mitchell has been linked with a move to United due to the reported imminent investment from British billionaire and INEOS boss Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

Mitchell is one of the names mentioned that Ratcliffe would like to hire if he takes over the football operations at the Old Trafford club.

The fact that Mitchell was spotted watching Greenwood in action for Getafe, the rumours of a potential return to Old Trafford for the Englishman will continue to swirl around.
