Ange Postecoglou was asked if FPL players should select James Maddison in latest press conference

Ange Postecoglou was asked if FPL players should select James Maddison in latest press conference

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou wasn't in the mood to chat about Fantasy Premier League in his latest press conference.

Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou was in no mood to chat about FPL after a reporter asked him whether he should put James Maddison in his Fantasy Premier League team.

For the first time in 20 years, the incredibly likable Postecoglou is taking a break from Fantasy Premier League.

That's right. After leaving Celtic this summer to become the first Australian manager in Premier League history, the 58-year-old decided it was time to hang up his FPL boots, although he admitted to being genuinely "gutted' about it.

"I don't need to play now because I am a Premier League manager," he added in a press conference. "There you go, it's not a fantasy anymore!"

He may have missed out on having the best FPL name in recent memory –– 'Haven't got a Postecoglou' –– but the Spurs boss is struggling to get away from the popular game.

Ahead of their Premier League clash against Liverpool, Postecoglou was asked the following by a reporter: "As someone who had a fantasy football team last season, should I put James Maddison in mine tomorrow?"

After a brief pause, the 58-year-old replied: "Mate you can do whatever you like. It's of zero interest to me."

As you can see in the footage below, his answer on whether the reporter should put Maddison in his team prompted a few laughs from members of the media.

Note to self: do not ask Ange Postecoglou for Fantasy Football tips.

One thing we do know is that Postecoglou speaks incredibly highly of James Maddison, who arrived from Leicester City in the summer for a reported £40 million.

"There wasn’t anyone happier than me when we got him. I was delighted," he said back in August after the England international scored his first goal for the club.

"I wouldn’t say I’m surprised, but I’m overjoyed at the footballer I’ve got. The way he’s embraced the whole club, where he’s at in his life. He really wants to be the person.

“He’s that creative force for us. He works hard, wins the ball back, presses. And I think there’s more to come, when he gets more understanding with our forward players and they get more understanding with him.”

“We’re trying to give him and the other creative players as much as the ball as possible for them to do the stuff that they love to do. I think the way definitely suits him.”
