Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi may still be the titans of world football but the duo do not feature on the most valuable XI in European football.

The CIES Football Observatory base their rankings on an array of information such as age, contract details, position and national team activity.

Despite the exclusion of the five-time Ballon d'Or winners, PSG boy wonder Kylian Mbappe (€252 million), Liverpool star Mohamed Salah (€220 million) and Manchester City hot-shot Raheem Sterling (€200 million) all make the list.

Messi, who scored 51 goals in all completions during his first season as Barcelona captain, is fourth on the list - with a market value of €167.4 million.

Ronaldo, meanwhile, notched 27 goals in his first season in Italy but the fact he is now 34 means his value of €118 million places him in 20th position. It is, however, still more than the reported £99 million Juventus paid to secure his services last summer.

The team sees the back line dominated by Liverpool's Champions League winners. Alisson, who kept 21 clean sheets in the Premier League, is in between the sticks with a market value of €107.5 million - considerably more than the £66.7 million the Reds paid to land him from Roma.

Further Liverpool presence comes from the world's most expensive defender, Virgil van Dijk (€112.1 million) Andy Robertson (€88.3 million) and Trent Alexander-Arnold (€130.2 million), who is the most valuable defender in the world according to the data.

Aymeric Laporte, having played an integral part in Manchester City's unprecedented treble, takes the second centre-back berth with a market value of €105.4m.

The midfield is made up of Manchester City maestro Bernardo Silva, Paul Pogba and Philippe Coutinho of Barcelona, providing the base for the deadly aforementioned front three of Mbappe, Salah and Sterling.
