Mario Balotelli Sent Off In What Is Likely His Final Game For Marseille

Mario Balotelli Sent Off In What Is Likely His Final Game For Marseille

The Italian's deal with Marseille runs out at the end of the season and he isn't expected to sign a new contract with the Ligue 1 side.

Mario Balotelli isn't one to leave somewhere quietly. The striker looks set to leave Marseille in the summer and rather than bow out without making a sound he got sent off in probably his last match for the club.

It doesn't matter which country he's in the headlines will always be made by Mario Balotelli in someway or another, whether it's setting fire to his own kitchen or something more football based.

His time in France has been no different as he's mixed more consistent goalscoring with quite a few red cards and an argument with Nice manager Patrick Vieira that led to him being allowed to leave for free.

When he did finally leave Nice part way through the season, after seeming like he would last summer, he joined Marseille till the end of the season.

With Marseille the Italian bagged eight goals in 15 games but it doesn't seem like it's enough to stay longer, with reports that his deal won't be extended past the summer.

So with Balotelli off and one game left of the season for Marseille last night there was only one thing for him to do, get sent off of course:

It was his fourth red card since joining Ligue 1, with Nice in 2016, and no other striker in Europe's top five league's have been sent for an early bath as often in that time, impressive stuff.

The sending off was also his 12th red card for the six teams he's played for across three different countries.

Marseille did still win the game, thanks to Florian Thauvin's 56th minute goal, but they finished the season in fifth place, 11 points off the Champions League spots.

Despite a very good record in the south of France the former Manchester City striker's contract runs out in the summer and as yet there's no offer for him to stay.

He will likely leave both Marseille and France in the summer and we can't wait to see where he rocks up next.
