Definitely one of the weirder footballing stories landed today when it was reported that fast food grilled burger aficionados Burger King had offered a lot of wonga to Russian side Zenit St. Petersburg to change their name to Zenit Burger King. The club have responded.
Of course commercialism in football is hardly a new thing or a surprise any more and energy drinks Red Bull own two football teams and an F1 team as well but sponsoring St Petersburg to change their name just seemed like a step too far.
Borrowing a scene from tv series Game of Thrones the club seemed to answer the offer on their twitter account, it's a surprise that they managed to find a scene without any sex or your favourite character dying in fairness:
It looks like Burger King will have to look elsewhere for their team. It's a shame for Zenit fans really who could have looked forward to Ashley Cole, Patrick Burger, Paulo Wanchope and Frank Le Boeuf playing for them...
