What would happen if the World XI played against a team of icons in FIFA 19? Well, one YouTuber has put that experiment into motion.

Rich Leigh used the PC version of the game to try out a match that any football fan would dream of watching.

Firstly, here is the starting lineup for the World XI in a 4-3-3 formation:

  • GK: David de Gea
  • RB: Joshua Kimmich
  • CB: Diego Godín
  • CB: Sergio Ramos
  • LB: Marcelo
  • CM: Luka Modrić
  • CM: Toni Kroos
  • CAM: Kevin De Bruyne
  • LW: Neymar
  • RW: Lionel Messi
  • ST: Cristiano Ronaldo

Not too shabby, right?

Messi and Ronaldo in the same team is already a mouth-watering scenario. While it's hard to see the complete bench, there is a spot for the likes of Thibaut Courtois, Mats Hummels, Paulo Dybala and Gareth Bale.

So, how do the legends compare? Here is the starting XI in a 4-2-3-1 formation:

  • GK: Lev Yashin
  • RB: Javier Zanetti
  • CB: Franco Baresi
  • CB: Paolo Maldini
  • LB: Roberto Carlos
  • CDM: Ruud Gullit
  • CDM: Lothar Matthäus
  • LCM: Ronaldinho
  • CAM/CF: Pelé
  • RCM: Diego Maradona
  • ST: Ronaldo Luís Nazário de Lima

Well, talk about a tough opposition right there. Just like the World XI, four legends can be spotted on the bench: Peter Schmeichel, Alessandro Nesta, Patrick Vieira and Johan Cruyff.

It must be a crazy first half, right? Nope. It ends 0-0, with the World XI only having three shots and the legends having one shot.

The second half is where business picks up, with Messi slotting past Yashin in the 53rd minute to open the scoring.

Pelé responds by equalising for the legends and sending the match into extra-time.

The Black Spider shows why he is considered the greatest 'keeper in history when he saves Bale's penalty to hand the legends a victory.

Despite the loss, Messi walks away with the man of the match award!

You can bet virtual -- and real-life -- Pelé wasn't happy with that decision.

FIFA 19 players have used EA Sports' latest title for all kinds of different experiments, which includes predicting the Ballon d'Or winners for the next 10 years.

Meanwhile, have you ever wondered how a team of Gary Nevilles vs a side of Jamie Carragher would do? Well, that scenario was tried out in Football Manager and it yielded some hilarious results.

FIFA 19 is now available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
