Ryan Christie's screamer of a goal against Motherwell earlier this week not only took the Scottish press by storm, but the Brazilian media too, with one newspaper nominating the strike for the FIFA Puskas Award.

The Celtic midfielder, currently on loan at Aberdeen, left fans at Pittodrie on Wednesday night stunned after deftly chipping the ball high into the top corner with the outside of his left foot, as the Dons ran out comfortable 7-2 winners.

The sublime strike was put forward as a goal of the season contender by Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes after the match and now respected Brazilian sports newspaper Globo Esporte are insisting it be considered for the Puskas Award.

The award is named after Hungarian legend Ferenc Puskás and takes place at the end of the calendar year to recognise the most beautiful strike from the past 12 months.

Via the Daily Record, Globo wrote: "The Puskas Award may not be until November, but already we have a serious contender from Scotland's Ryan Christie.

"An incredible first time strike from the Aberdeen player."

What do you make of the fuss surrounding the goal? Should Christie's strike really be nominated for such a revered accolade?

What's your favourite goal of all time?
