Vincent Kompany Could Miss Out On His Own Testimonial After Latest Setback

Things haven't gone well at all for the new Anderlecht player-manager and he may not be able to play in his Manchester City testimonial.

Vincent Kompany's poor start as Anderlecht player-manager continued on Friday night with the team failing to pick up a win once again and the defender picking up an injury.

The season hasn't started well at all for Kompany and his team, with the 33-year-old being 'removed' as manager on match days, and on Friday night they failed to win for the fifth game in a row.

Not only did Anderlecht lose 1-0 against champions Genk but the defender came off injured and could now have to miss out on his own Manchester City testimonial in three weeks time.

The four time Premier League winner is meant to be playing in his City testimonial on September 11th in a City Legends team, managed by Pep Guardiola, against a Premier League All-stars team, including 10 Manchester United players.

Last week Kompany, who could now also miss out on Belgium's two Euro 2020 qualifiers next month, was at fault for some of the goals in a 4-2 loss.

After that match the former City captain was hit with huge criticism from former Anderlecht striker Marc Degryse, who said the 33-year-old 'thinks he is God.'

Following that fourth game without a win Kompany decided to give up the position of manager on match days, handing the reins to head coach Simon Davies when the game is on, instead taking the captain's armband.

The latest loss means the club have just two points out of a possible 15 from the start of the season and could even find themselves just one point about the one relegation place by the end of the weekend, with two of the three clubs below them playing each other.

Things won't get any easier in the next few weeks for the new manager as his teams have to play third place Standard Liege, fourth place Antwerp and top side Club Brugge before the end of September.

Can Kompany turn things around in Belgium?
