Francesco Totti has been offered the chance to become Roma's director of football, an incredibly fitting way to end such a prolific and devoted career.

The 40-year-old, who has made over 600 appearances for the club in a 25 year period, signed a one-year contract back in June, but it is thought he will end his playing career at the end of the current season.

Here's Totti being an actual boss:

Roma club president James Pallotta didn't discuss the possibility of Totti continuing his career on the pitch, but revealed that the 40-year-old has an offer on the table to extend his time with the club:

"We've not spoken (about his playing future) but Francesco has a six-year contract as a director," Pallotta told Gazzetta dello Sport,

Pallotta went onto speak about Roma's ambitions in the near future:

"Our objective now is to qualify for the Champions League, even if the season's not over yet because (league leaders) Juventus still have to play Napoli so I'm hoping for a draw in that game.

"We've just got to think about this now, not about contracts. I'm confident we can finish second. The Champions League is where this club belongs. We've slowed down a bit, but I think we'll pick up the pace again towards the end."

Totti has only managed to make one start for Roma this season, which naturally casts doubts over his playing days at the Stadio Olimpico.

The Italian has, however, managed to find the net twice, while assisting seven times in 17 appearances.

A true legend of the game.
