Steven Gerrard's final season at Liverpool may not have been the fairytale ending everyone associated with the Red half of Merseyside was hoping for, but this afternoon, the Kop's favourite number eight and his life long haircut were at it again, tearing up the Anfield turf as if it was 2005 all over again.

While today's match between a Liverpool Legends team and a Real Madrid Legends side may not have been 'competitive' in the official sense of the term, clearly no one passed that message onto the former Reds skipper, who made the likes of Luis Figo, Roberto Carlos and Clarence Seedorf look like passengers.

Liverpool ran out 4-3 winners on the day, with Gerrard contributing to every goal.

First of all, he wound the clock back to 2001 to lay on film shunning, horse race enthusiast Michael Owen for the opening goal of the game:

This was followed by another assist, this time for John Aldridge, in the second half:

Gerrard then won a penalty which fellow Kop legend Robbie Fowler duly converted, before finally getting on the scoresheet himself:

Despite a late three goal rally from the 'Los Blancos' legends, which saw Edwin Congo, Fernando Morientes and Ruben De La Red pull goals back, the Reds ran out winners, with Gerrard rightfully being named Man Of The Match.

Worth another season in the first team, surely?
