For two straight World Cups Brazil's deadly striker Ronaldo owned pretty much all of the headlines in the World Cup and finally he has lifted the lid on why he had the daftest haircut going in the 2002 tournament.

In 1998 in France Ronaldo made a real name for himself as he helped guide Brazil to the final against the tournament hosts.

However things turned weird on the day of the final with Ronaldo out of the team and back in during the build up with no one really knowing why.

Four years later and the tournament in South Korea really belonged to him as he helped his country recapture the World Cup as leading scorer with eight goals.

But the then Inter Milan forward grabbed headlines for more than just his goals but also his dreadful half hair cut and he's now revealed why he had the trim. Talking to ESPN Brazil he said:

"My groin was hurting. I was only at 60%. So I shaved my head.

"Everybody was only talking about my injury. When I arrived in training with this haircut everybody stopped talking about the injury."

The legendary striker would go on to become the World Cups leading goal scorer four years later in Germany, although the record would get taken off him by Miroslav Klose.

2002 was a better time, even England made it to the quarter finals of a World Cup!

Ronaldo was such a good striker even his haircut could trick you!
