Glazer family have denied Manchester United's Jude Bellingham wish as Erik ten Hag suffers transfer setback

The Glazer family may bear some of the brunt for Manchester United's prospective failure to sign Jude Bellingham this summer.

The 19-year-old has been a long-standing target of the Red Devils', with Erik ten Hag a keen admirer of the midfielder.

United were thought to be stepping up their pursuit of Bellingham in the wake of Liverpool's withdrawal from the race, although the latest reports suggest they have been beaten to it.

Real Madrid are closing in on a deal for the 19-year-old, according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, who claim negotiations are 'progressing to the final stages'.

However, United supporters may have their current owners to blame, with the club's delayed takeover reportedly having an impact on a deal.

Glazers deny Bellingham transfer

Bellingham has developed into one of world football's most exciting talents, excelling in the Bundesliga and Champions League for Borussia Dortmund this season.

A summer transfer has looked to be imminent for some time, with Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool and Real Madrid all placed on red alert should he become available.

It seems Bellingham has his heart set on the Bernabeu though, with 'personal terms almost agreed', states Romano.

But he has suggested that Manchester United's failure to sign the Englishman could hinge on the Glazers' delayed takeover.

Writing for the Guardian, Romano stated: "Manchester United are keen on the player but that interest was contingent on moves by the Glazers to sell the club or take outside investment."

British businessman Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Qatari banker Sheikh Jassim submitted their final offers to buy the club on Friday evening, as the Glazers mull over their decision.

It remains to be seen who will gain control of the club, or whether the Glazers will make a U-turn on their decision to sell.

However, the entire process seems to have had huge implications on Ten Hag's transfer plans, with the Dutchman's pursuit of Bellingham derailed as a result.
