You will have heard it all before but Antonio Cassano has retired from football for the third time - and he's adamant he's completely done and dusted this time.

The 36-year-old started training with Serie C side Virtus Entella and looked like he was having one last crack at professional football.

But a week on, the former Italy international has decided to call it a day - with his last official match coming for Sampdoria in 2016.

He posted a lengthy message to announce his decision, explaining how he no longer felt he had the desire to play football anymore.

"The day has come, the day when you decide it really is over," Cassano wrote.

"Over the last few days of training, I realised that I no longer have the mentality to train consistently. In order to play football, you need passion and talent, but above all determination and at this moment I have other priorities."

Cassano also talks about his eagerness to start the second half of his life, though his comments really should be taken with a pinch of salt.

After all, he performed a u-turn on a u-turn, on another u-turn in just two weeks after signing for Hellas Verona in 2017. He joined on 10 July, retired and came out of retirement on 18 July and then announced he was retiring again on 24 July.

Clearly, Cassano is as indecisive as they come so don't be surprised if he does return to football in the near future.

In a topsy-turvy career that ought to have been much more successful, he turned out for Bari, Roma, Real Madrid, Sampdoria, AC Milan, Inter Milan, Parma, scoring 139 goals in 515 competitive appearances.
