Antonio Valencia has emerged as a shock transfer target for newly promoted Sheffield United.

This news comes hours after rumours that Franck Ribery could be swayed by a move to Bramall Lane this summer.

Sport Witness have reported that a variety of clubs have been linked with the free agent, following his departure from Old Trafford after ten years this summer.

These have included clubs in the MLS, Turkey and his native Ecuador.

However it seems to be 'The Blades' are seriously interested in the 33-year-old and they have reportedly 'submitted a proposal' to the Ecuadorian.

Valencia departed Old Trafford after ten years this summer after a very notable career with United, who he signed for from Wigan Athletic in 2009.

Following a horrific leg break in 2010, Valencia returned to the United first team and won their Player of the Year award in 2012.

Following this, he was given the legendary number 7 shirt for a season but decided to switch back to the number 25.

Valencia's last years at United involved him predominantly playing as a right-back before his departure.

He ended his United career having won the Premier League twice as well as two Carabao Cups, an FA Cup and Europa League.

He is said to be waiting for the end of the Copa America before making a decision on his future.

If United manage to sign Valencia as well as Ribery, then Chris Wilder's side could be surprise packages this season.

Ribery left Bayern at the end of the season after 12 years at the club but the 36-year-old is looking for his next challenge rather than retiring and it could be in England.

Which of the two are more likely to be playing at Bramall Lane next season? Let us know in the comments below.
