Arsenal are already preparing their shopping list ahead of the summer transfer window and have identified a potentially cheap replacement for Aaron Ramsey.

The 28-year-old Gunners star will leave the Premier League club at the end of the season after signing a pre-contract agreement with Juventus.

According to CalcioMercato, the London club have turned their attention to Jordan Veretout as a player to replace the Wales international ahead of next season.

The Italian publication reports that Arsenal have made contact with the 26-year-old midfielder's agent and have held talks over a potential move to the Emirates Stadium.

It is believed that the Fiorentina player attended the Gunners' first-leg 2-0 victory over Napoli in the Europa League quarter-finals.

Veretout previously played for Aston Villa, but he was sent out on loan to Saint-Étienne for the subsequent season.

The former France under-21 international, who has not been capped at senior level for his country, left Villa in 2017 after Fiorentina signed him for a reported fee of €7m.

With his current deal set to expire in 2021, the Gunners believe that they could snap him for a low fee.

However, BeIN Sports' Andy Gray recently suggested that Gunners boss Unai Emery should be spending at least £40m on a suitable replacement for the Juventus-bound Ramsey.

"Well, you probably start at £40m -- start at £40m," he said. "If you want to replace him for what he's got now.

"Listen, [Mattéo] Guendouzi may be a player who comes in and in three or four years time he might be the new Aaron Ramsey, we don't know that.

"He's a young kid they brought [in] from the second division in France. He looks a talent, but he's miles away from being Aaron Ramsey.

"So they've got to either wait two or three years to see if Guendouzi can become an Aaron Ramsey, and that's not a given.

"Or they've got to look at and think, 'We've got to spend £45-50m to get a midfield player that can do what Aaron Ramsey does for us, but will be doing for Juventus next year.'"

Arsenal are currently fourth in the Premier League and are level on points with fifth-placed Chelsea and two points ahead of sixth-placed Manchester United.
