Stiliyan Petrov is forging quite a magical story as the Bulgarian is set to return where he belongs; on the football pitch.

Despite suffering relegation from the Premier League, Aston Villa fans have a reason to put a smile on their face as former skipper is to return to competition. The midfield maestro sadly had his career cut short following being diagnosed with acute leukemia. After battling through the illness, Petrov remained adamant he wanted to lace up the boots, again. His desire is now coming to fruition as Aston Villa have revealed he is part of the first team for their impending pre-season.

TheSPORTbible spoke exclusively with Petrov as he labelled his road to recovery as "very hard work with steady progress and believe." The prospect of crossing the white line has him "incredibly excited, words cannot explain." While claiming that Villa's 2015/2016 campaign is "a season they need to forget as soon as possible, and look forward to go back to where they belong!"

The club earlier confirmed on Twitter that Petrov will join the first team for pre-season.

The Championship side are setting up in Austria for a warm-weather training camp, where the 36-year-old will be involved.

Brilliant to see. Good luck on the comeback, Stan
