Barcelona Broke A Surprising Record In Their La Liga Win Over Leganes

Not what you always come to expect from Barcelona.

Barcelona clinched a vital victory over Leganes at the Nou Camp last night as they looked to put that humiliating 4-0 defeat at the hands of Paris Saint-Germain.

The Blaugrana scored the win courtesy of a late Lionel Messi penalty, with the visitors cancelling out Messi's earlier strike through Unai Lopez and at that point, it looked as though it was going to be another frustrating evening for Barca until Neymar was brought down and Messi coolly dispatched.

Barca also broke a surprising record in the game and it's one you wouldn't normally associate with them.

As pointed out by the Metro, the XI chosen by Luis Enrique contained just one Spanish player in Sergi Roberto, with the rest of the side all from foreign countries. It is the first time ever that a Barcelona manager has named ten non-Spanish players in their team.

Granted, Rafinha and Lionel Messi are both La Masia graduates despite their different nationalities and the three substitutes brought on in Andres Iniesta, Jordi Alba and Denis Suarez are all Spanish players but it was still surprising to see a club who pride themselves so much on developing homegrown talent and giving them opportunities, field just one non-foreign player.

However, it speaks volumes of the situation Barca are placed in at the moment and having been battered in Paris, they needed a response and Luis Enrique was undeniably more concentrated and concerned about getting back to winning ways rather than the amount of overseas players he had in his starting eleven.

Can you remember any other instances of where clubs have fielded a side near-enough or completely full of foreign players? Let us know in the comments.

But before you go, feel free to check out some clips of Barca's world-beaters scoring great goals in training.
