In December 2015 Harry Arter and his fiancee Rachel were hit with the sad news of a stillbirth however the couple are now the happy parents of baby Raine.

The footballing world was really struck with the story of Arter and his extremely sad news last season, especially when the Bournemouth midfielder played just 24 hours after he lost his child.

Now though he and his family have reason to celebrate with the birth, last night, of their first child Raine.

Writing on his Instagram account Arter said: "A rainbow baby is the understanding that the beauty of a rainbow does not negate the ravage of a storm.

"When the rainbow appears, it doesn't mean the storm never happened or that the family is now dealing with its aftermath.

"What is means is that something beautiful and full of light has appeared in the midst of the darkest clouds."

And both Bournemouth and their chairman Jeff Mostyn sent their congratulations to the player and his family:

Last week Arter was sought after by Pep Guardiola after the Cherries match with Manchester City so the Spaniard could congratulate him on the upcoming birth of his child.

Guardiola heads straight for Arter after Bournemouth vs City

Manchester City closed the gap on Chelsea last night but it was their manager Pep Guardiola who stole all the headlines for his heart-warming gesture to Bournemouth's Harry Arter.

City climbed up to second in the Premier League following their 2-nil victory at the Vitality stadium thanks to a brilliant performance from Raheem Sterling.

Sterling opened the scoring before turning provider with Sergio Aguero doubling their lead after coming off the bench replacing the injured Gabriel Jesus.

Once the final whistle blew, Guardiola entered the pitch to congratulate his players then rushed over to Arter to issue a touching message. For those who missed it:

He was offering his condolences as a result of the tragic stillborn death of his daughter Renee in December 2015.

And the Republic of Ireland international has since revealed what was said to him. Speaking to Daily Echo via the Independent;

"He offered his best wishes for me and my partner this week, which was an unbelievable touch."

"He is someone I have a massive amount of respect for. I watched his Barcelona teams - and look at his Manchester City side tonight."

"For me, he is the best manager in the world. I don't think there's anybody close to him and what he has achieved."

"For him to offer that to me, I respected it and accepted it with a smile on my face."

Meanwhile, the Spaniard continued in the post-match press conference;

"He will be a father soon so I said big congratulations to him and his partner because I know what happened in the past, and, hopefully, the baby will be well."

Pep's a class act!

Non League player's vile abuse towards Harry Arter

Hitchin Town player Alfie Barker has been sacked after sending vile Tweets towards Bournemouth's Harry Arter over the death of his baby.

Arter was involved in the thrilling Premier League game last night which saw Arsenal claw their way back from 3-down to salvage a point.

And following the game, Barker aimed some disgusting messages his way which were immediately reported by the club.

The two Tweets referenced Arter and partner Rachel losing their stillborn daughter in 2015. Needless to say, the messages upset the Irish international who plays every game for her.

The messages were eventually deleted with the disgraced-Barker issuing an apology; "I'm sorry for every comment made, I'd like to apologise to Harry Arter and his family for such disgraceful comments and I'm sorry from the bottom of my heart."

But not before claiming he was hacked. That old chestnut.

While his seventh-tier side, well now-former, provided this statement;

"In the light of the player's irresponsible and anti-social behaviour, we are terminating Alfie Barker's registration and relationship with the club with immediate effect."
