Gutting news for City, it seems.

Manchester City's new superstar Gabriel Jesus hobbled off in the first-half of the 2-0 win over Bournemouth yesterday and the extent of the Brazilian's injury has now emerged.

The 19-year old looked in some discomfort when he attempted to get on the end of a cut-back in the first-half and though he attempted to play for several more minutes, could not continue and was subsequently brought off for Sergio Aguero, who was on the bench for the third game in a row.

Spanish Journalist Vera Brunati tweeted today saying that Jesus, a £27m signing from Palmeiras, has ruptured his fifth metatarsal and is set to be out for two to three months.

There has also been word from another source in Spain that Jesus is facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

Jesus has since been pictured on crutches in Manchester and reports have claimed that he was presented with two options: get surgery and be out for three months, or go through physiotherapy and be back within a month, but with a much higher chance of aggravating the injury.

It's a huge blow for City and Jesus, who has been on fire since joining up with the squad, scoring three goals in his first three games and being an integral part of a more youthful forward line in recent weeks for Pep Guardiola's side, with Leroy Sane and Raheem Sterling also impressing.

Here's how people reacted on social media after hearing the news that the in-form Premier League new boy looks set to be out for quite some time:

These reports were then confirmed by City, who released a statement on Jesus' injury, revealing that he had suffered a fractured metatarsal. Further tests are set to follow in the coming days.

City fans will no doubt be hoping Jesus rises from the dead before the season is done and dusted.

He has took to the Premier League incredibly well, displaying clever movement and a killer instinct infront of goal - demonstrated in his three goals so far. He also registered assists in games against Crystal Palace and West Ham and was contributing so much, even so early in his City career, that even Aguero, arguably the best striker in the Premier League on his day, could not get a sniff in.

City find themselves in second place after their professional 2-0 win over Bournemouth last night but losing Jesus for an upcoming crucial run-in is a massive blow.
