Portugal Manager Fernando Santos says Cristiano Ronaldo won't follow in Lionel Messi's footsteps and retire from international football, should Portugal lose the Euro 2016 final.
Messi retired following Argentina's Copa America final defeat at the hands of Chile, who triumphed on penalties. The Barcelona talisman missed his spot-kick in the penalty shoot-out and decided to call it quits.
However, Ronaldo will not be going down the same route according to his national team boss, who expects the Real Madrid hitman to represent his country at another European Championship. Santos knows Ronaldo extremely well, having coached him in his early days at Sporting Lisbon - before he became the world beater that he is today.
He said:
He'll play for another six, seven, 10 years. I don't know. But it [the Euro 2016 final] won't be his final match.
