Denmark Player Flew Out For Slovakia Friendly, Completely Unaware Of Boycott Going On

He didn't have a scooby doo...

Denmark's national team boycotting their game against Slovakia was a massive story but one of the team's players had no idea of what was going and went about business as usual.

Winger Pione Sisto, who plays for Celta Vigo, flew to Vienna airport the day before the game with Slovakia - the team's original plan was to fly there, stay the night and make their way to the stadium in Trnava, Slovakia.

However, with players and staff not partaking in the game because of disputes over new contracts, specifically in relation to image rights, no-one made the trip and an entirely new squad of amateur footballers and futsal players was assembled to fulfil the fixture.

23-year old Sisto didn't get the memo though. Well, he did but he just forgot to read the message in time.

"I have received many messages on my phone in recent days, but have not read them all," he told TV3 Sport.

"One of them may be from the Player Association. I have to check it out, even though it is nowhere."

As per ESPN, he was then instructed to get a flight to Copenhagen, the Danish capital, where the the original Denmark squad have been meeting to talk over what's going in within the national team set-up.

The Danish player' association say all the players were made aware of the situation but deem Sisto to have either forgotten or overlooked the message he received.

Considering their predicament, Denmark did pretty well to only lose 3-0 to Slovakia last night. Coached by Euro 1992 winner and former Arsenal man, John Jensen, the squad comprised of a whole host of job titles - including a builder, sales consultant, boat mechanic and football freestyler.

Denmark face Wales on Sunday in their first UEFA Nations League game but it remains to be seen which group of players will be playing the match in Aarhus.
