Diego Costa is set to be rewarded for his form this season with a new and improved contract at Chelsea.

The 28-year old has been exceptional this season for table-topping Chelsea, scoring a league-high 13 goals and contributing further with five assists.

Many of Costa's goals have been in narrow 1-0 wins for the Blues - with goals against Middlesbrough, West Brom and Crystal Palace providing evidence of Costa's unrivalled match-winning qualities.

And reports suggest that Chelsea are looking to tie down their talisman with a new deal.

The former Atletico Madrid man is still contracted until 2019 on a £150,000-a-week deal but The Mirror and Daily Mail are reporting that Chelsea feel as though Costa warrants given his form and attitude this season. The fiery striker's caution against Crystal Palace was his first in 11 games but the four previous bookings means Costa will sit out Chelsea's Boxing Day clash with Bournemouth.

But Chelsea are keen on extending his stint with the club and highlight his contributions by giving him a new deal that will see Costa stay for a further two years and earn around £200,000-a-week.

It certainly makes sense for Chelsea to give their main man a new contract after his displays this term.

Has Costa been the best player in the Premier League this season so far?
