The season goes from bad to worse for Wayne Rooney. After being dropped by Jose Mourinho at Manchester United, interim-boss Gareth Southgate has dropped the England skipper to the bench.
The 30-year-old has been subject to intense criticism from fans and every corner of the media for his below par performances, eventually getting axed by Mourinho at United and Southgate has now followed suit.
Following another poor outing against Malta over the weekend, he's now set to receive the same treatment at international level as claimed by Sky Sports News' Jim White.

Either Gary Cahill or Jordan Henderson will deputise as England captain. As for Rooney's replacement, Spurs' Eric Dier seems the likely choice.
England ultimately beat the European minnows 2-0 thanks to goals from Daniel Sturridge and Dele Alli kicking-off the Southgate reign with a victory.
