Harry Kane endured a frustrating night against Russia on Saturday and his performance has been under the microscope, since. And it's not just disgruntled England fans who are questioning whether the Spurs striker should start against Wales on Thursday afternoon, but Roy Hodgson's staff, too.
Kane looked a little off the pace during the Three Lions' 1-1 draw with the Russians in Marseille and the fact he was taking corners instead of loitering in the box to potentially get on the end of one didn't help matters, either. The 22-year-old struggled to make an impression and only got in behind the opposition defence by wandering offside. When the game was crying out for the pace of a Jamie Vardy, Daniel Sturridge or Marcus Rashford, all of whom remained as unused substitutes, Kane stayed on the pitch, unable to make an impact.
His lack of threat has alerted the England manager's staff, who believe last season's top scorer in the Premier League may still be a touch jaded following a long, arduous season.
Advert
Whether Hodgson will cave and drop Kane for one of his other striking options remains to be seen, but another poor performance on Thursday afternoon could force the England manager's hand.
