Pep Guardiola's Manchester City squad is bursting with so much talent for him to use. Considering he reinforced his squad with the addition of Riyad Mahrez, for example, there's plenty of competition in the starting XI.

However, the former Barcelona manager has singled out one player who he feels sorry for when it comes to playing time at City: Phil Foden.

Press Association

Foden is one of City's rising stars and hottest prospects to have emerged through the club's academy. The 18-year-old has struggled to find minutes in the first team or lay claim to a regular starting position since the season has started.

Foden was an unused substitute in City's 3-0 victory over Fulham on Saturday.

"I feel guilty," Guardiola said (via the Manchester Evening News). "He deserves to play. The problem was the injury to Sergio Aguero, we didn't want to take a risk.

Press Association

"Phil Foden will play a lot of games this season -- I feel it. The guys after the game were so tired, we have games, games, games, he's going to play. I like him a lot.

"Every time he plays, he plays so good. He will play minutes."

Guardiola also came out to praise the performance of Leroy Sané in the match, who opened the scoring within the first few minutes.

Press Association

"We never had doubts about Leroy's quality," he said. "He shows us many times in the last season and today he played again, so good.

"We cannot forget sometimes this kind of thing happens, he is 21, 22. Sometimes he has to realise what like [sic] a professional he has to do. Delighted for his performance and so confident."

Do you think Foden should have been played in the match?
