From Premier League winners to a relegation dog-fight. As a result of Leicester City's precarious position in the league, the club took the decision to sack Claudio Ranieri sparking outrage among the footballing community.

Though it appears to have divided opinion in the Leicester camp. Some were disappointed with the decision while a section of fan were pleased to see the back of the Italian despite his heroics last season.

(Here's one of Ranieri's many fine moments - dilly dong!)

But one avid Leicester fan who definitely doesn't side with the latter is Gary Lineker. The Match of the Day host took to Twitter to express his sheer sadness of his sacking, summing up the general feeling of supporters.

Not to mention posting a classy tribute to the legendary gaffer on his Instagram. He uploaded a picture of the man himself kissing the Premier League trophy accompanied with the words; "Grazie Mille per tutti, Claudio."

Furthermore, speaking to BBC Radio 4, the former prolific frontman also shed a tear; "I suppose you can explain it in terms of a panic decision and for me a wrong decision. I shed a tear last night for Claudio, for football and for my club."

(Lineker interviews Vardy and Ranieri during the BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2016.)

And today, the 56-year-old continued to pay tribute by detailing the problems of modern football while singling out the board. He said via BBC Sport;

"It's a sign of modern football, what happened last season was truly extraordinary. The lack of gratitude from the owners of the club and who knows who else involved in such a decision beggars belief."

"That season will remain with us forever, it was truly special and a lot of that was down to the management."

"The same guy cannot be considered incapable of doing the job a few months months later after achieving what, for me, was the biggest miracle in sport."

Thank you, Claudio - You'll always be a legend!
