Harry Redknapp Can't Understand Why Manchester United Signed Pogba Instead Of Alli

Does the former Spurs boss have a point?

Former Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp claims Manchester United should have signed Tottenham's Dele Alli in 2014, as the English international is better than Paul Pogba.

Jose Mourinho spent £89 million in order to re-sign the Frenchman in the summer, after United had originally let him leave for Juventus in 2012.
However, pundits and supporters have been highly critical of the transfer so far this season, with the 23-year-old having scored four goals and three assists in 24 Premier League games.

And just to make matters worse, Redknapp believes United may have signed the wrong youngster.

In fairness, Redknapp has a decent track record with recognising great, young English talent...

Yes, the former Spurs boss thinks Dele Alli is a better player than Pogba, claiming the Reds should have jumped at the chance to sign the former MK Dons player after losing to the League One side in 2014.

"I think he's fantastic. Can you tell me how all those people failed to spot him when he played for MK Dons every week?

"How did they end up waiting until it took Spurs to go in and take him? He played against Manchester United when they beat them that day," Redknapp said.

"United should have signed him then and there. They'd have headed off from the game disappointed, but at least they'd have had a future star for the club with them on the team bus."

Redknapp, who now works as a pundit for BT Sport, then compared 20-year-old Alli to Pogba, admitting the Tottenham midfielder has "got everything".

"You wonder how they didn't take a kid from MK Dons for £5m. How did they not see him? It's incredible that no-one took him. £5m! What a signing, what a player.

"I think now he's worth £100m. If Pogba's £90m, he's more. He's 20 years of age! The kid's got everything," he added.

"He scores goals, makes goals, can head it, run, dribble, he's got an edge to him too and he puts his foot in. I think he's fantastic."

Tottenham play Gent in the Europa League round of 32 first leg tonight, while United host Ligue 1 outfit Saint-Etienne at Old Trafford.
