The latest in The Telegraph's investigation into shady dealings within English football has shone light on apparent illegal bets placed by players under Harry Redknapp's management. Now, the former Spurs manager has responded to the undercover footage and he isn't happy.

On The Telegraph's video, Redknapp was seen talking with agents Dax Price and Pino Pagliara about an end of season game in which several of his players had placed a spread bet on their own team winning, with Price remarking about how one player placed as much as £20,000 on the outcome of the match.

While Redknapp himself wasn't incriminated in terms of placing a bet, the video report makes it seem as if he knew about it and didn't report it to the FA, as he is legally required to do.

Redknapp has now responded, declaring the whole thing "a nonsense", during an appearance on BT Sport this afternoon.

"If that's the best they could get out of three hours of sitting with me and trying to stitch me up, it's sad.

"The worst part is that when the bill came up, the other four scumbags got up and left me with the bill. How do I know [think he means, know what they got up to]?

"They never had a bet anyway. No-one had a bet. Impossible. Anyone who's watching this who understands betting odds knows that a team on the top playing a team that's relegated, it's not a betting proposition. You can't bet on that. It's ridiculous."

We get the impression this case is going to run and run and run.
