International colleague Jose Fonte has revealed Cristiano Ronaldo's unique training ritual during his time at Sporting Lisbon.

Ronaldo was plying his trade with the Primeira League club before attracting interest from Manchester United, and Fonte has revealed that he did press-ups before and after training.

Before the Portuguese skipper graduated to Sportings senior side, he was honing his craft with the B side where the Southampton defender first interacted with him. The 32-year-old recollected the time he walked into the dressing room seeing a young Ronaldo doing press-ups in the shower room, no less.

"I just remember him doing push-ups in the shower. He would say to everyone, 'I will do more push-ups than you in the shower after training'. And he would. He would do more than everyone. It showed how competitive he is. He was so far ahead of everyone."

Fonte continued by lauding his incredible work ethic;

"He was only young and I saw him millions of times in the gym, after training, when everyone else had gone home trying to get stronger, trying to be quicker."

The Real Madrid frontman has yet to emulate his club form during this tournament but did open his account with a brace against Hungary subsequently becoming the first player to score in four European Championships.

They narrowly advanced to the quarter-finals after beating Croatia with a last gasp winner from Ricardo Quaresma, despite not playing to their best, the 'A Selecção' now face Poland on Thursday evening for a place in the semi-finals.
