Jose Mourinho gave his take on the situation with Paul Pogba and the captaincy at Manchester United after his side were dumped out of the Carabao Cup on penalties to Derby County.

After Pogba's comments about United needing to attack more following on from the disappointing draw with Wolves, multiple reports emerged saying that the World Cup winner and Mourinho had fell out - and that he would never captain the side again.

Pogba was not involved in the defeat to Derby, with he and a number of other first-team stars rested and watching the game in the stands.

But when Mourinho was asked the all-important question about his relationship with Pogba post-match, he gave a rather odd response.

"The only truth is that I made the decision of Paul not to be the second captain anymore," he told Sky Sports.

"But no fall-out. No problems at all. The same person that decides Paul is not second captain anymore was exactly the same person that decides that Paul was the second captain, myself.

"I am the manager, I can make these decisions, no fall out at all, no problems at all. Just one decision that I don't have to explain."

We're not quite sure what to make of what Mourinho has said there He's confirmed that the former Juventus man is no longer vice-captain, but denied any rift - which seems very weird.

As they always do, more details on the rumoured bust-up will likely come out in due course.
