Jurgen Klopp Reveals What Was On Note To Daniel Sturridge

The piece of paper had everyone talking last night

The piece of paper Jurgen Klopp handed to Daniel Sturridge during Liverpool's 1-0 defeat to Southampton in the first leg of last night's League Cup semi-final set social media's meme community ablaze trying to figure out what the Liverpool manager was telling his striker. Now Klopp has revealed what the message was about.

Klopp's men struggled without Philippe Coutinho, Sadio Mane, Joel Matip and Jordan Henderson last night and were it not for a much improved performance from under fire goalkeeper Loris Karius, the tie may have already been beyond the Reds, who go into the second leg trailing by a single Nathan Redmond strike.

Speaking after the match, Klopp revealed the contents of the note:

"New system. Whatever we want to call it, 3-5-2. Lucas at the back, Emre in the centre, two wingers, two strikers. Half space for Lallana and Coutinho. That's all. No more information but it was enough. Maybe it was a little bit too late.

"We gave the paper when the game was already running again, that was our mistake.

I would say seven or eight [of my players] knew immediately. Roberto [Firmino] needed a little longer [to understand]. But he was close enough to us. Things like this happen."

With at least a couple of goals needed to reach the final at Wembley, Klopp will be hoping for Coutinho and Henderson to be available for the return leg at Anfield on the 25th January.
