LA Lakers Star And Arsenal Fan Luol Deng Wants To Buy Crystal Palace

The first celebrity owner in the Premier League?

LA Lakers star Luol Deng has been linked with a takeover of English Premier League side Crystal Palace - even though he's known to be an Arsenal fan.

The 31-year-old forward was born in South Sudan but spent the early part of his life in London, particularly Brixton, and he apparently regards Palace as his 'second team' behind the Gunners.

American investors Josh Harris and David Blitzer poured millions of pounds into Palace last year in exchange for a percentage of the Selhurst Park club, which they now run with Steve Parish.

And with Stan Kroenke firmly ensconced at the Emirates, it seems Deng wants a piece of the Eagles too.

Speaking via the Evening Standard, Deng is quoted as saying: "We just played Crystal Palace where Giroud scored that amazing scorpion-kick goal, but this is where it's tough because I grew up three minutes from the Crystal Palace stadium and when I was young on match day there was a hill where we could watch the Palace through a gap in the stadium.

"Since then I've been a huge Crystal Palace fan - Arsenal's my number one team, Crystal Palace is my second! I'm hoping they can stay up - I've always said that if I become a billionaire I'm buying Crystal Palace - it's a dream of mine!"

It may seem unlikely that an active sports star could realistically buy a franchise like Palace but Deng's current four-year contract is thought to be worth almost £60 million - not too bad, eh?

Personally, we would LOVE to see this catch on. Make it happen, Deng. Make it happen.
