The Sky Sports pundit believes United should go after some of Europe's finest passing midfielders like Alonso, Modric, Sergio Busquets or Toni Kroos
It would be a surprise to see such a diehard Liverpool man like Alonso end up at Old Trafford - especially at the age of 35.
Busquets is a pivotal player at Barcelona and looks like he'd play his whole career there, while Zinedine Zidane considers Modric and Kroos as two of his most important midfield men.

Carrick has emerged as a key player for Jose Mourinho recently, adding 12 appearances this term to the 421 he had made for the club in the 10 campaigns before.
But he's 35 and will eventually have to hang up his boots, paving the way for new blood in the United midfield.
