Frank Lampard's expected return to Chelsea looks set to lead to a very interesting situation for out-of-contract Blues right-back Todd Kane.

The 25-year old, who has been at the club since the age of eight but yet to make a first-team appearance, turned down a new deal at Stamford Bridge and his current contract expires this summer.

According to The Times, Derby County are one of a number of Championship teams to have offered Kane a contract after his impressive loan spell with Hull City last term.

But with Lampard an admirer, it's said that the Chelsea legend could make a renewed attempt to keep the right-back at Chelsea - especially with two-window transfer ban imposed by FIFA.

Chelsea's all-time record goalscorer Lampard urged Derby to get Kane last season but he headed to East Yorkshire.

The Rams did sign talented Blues youngsters Mason Mount and Fikayo Tomori on loan, however, and both are expected to be afforded chances next season.

The latest update regarding Chelsea's pursuit of Lampard saw ESPN claim that the Premier League side will offer Lampard a three-year deal to become the new first-team coach, replacing Maurizio Sarri after he left for Juventus.

The Europa League winners will have to pay £4 million in compensation if they want to bring him back to West London.

It is also believed that former midfielder Jody Morris, who is currently assistant manager at Derby, will join him at Stamford Bridge, alongside fitness coach Chris Jones.
