Paul Pogba was at the centre of the biggest transfer saga of the summer, eventually signing for Manchester United for a world record fee and now his agent has explained exactly what took the deal so long to complete, and why he turned down Real Madrid.

The France international signed for United for a fee in the region of £100 million - four years after departing Old Trafford for Juventus - and has enjoyed a bright start to his second stint as a Red Devil.

But for a while over the summer months, it felt like the transfer would never be completed, with fans constantly trawling the internet for rumours, clues and speculation.

Now his agent Mino Raiola - who reportedly pocketed a whopping £20 million commission by selling Pogba back to United - has broken his silence over the deal and explained some of the complexities behind the scenes.

Speaking to Telefoot, via Eurosport, he said: "Zidane wanted him at Real Madrid but there were another five or six clubs following him as well. Manchester United are now a lot stronger thanks to him, whilst Real Madrid are not.

"I never spoke about the market with Pogba whilst he was playing at the European Championship, and then he went on holiday because he was very disappointed.

"It was only when I arrived in Miami was it when things were put in motion. He explained to me what he wanted. Manchester is his home."
