French international Yann M'Vila was absolutely heartbroken in the summer when his proposed move to Sunderland in the summer broke down.

The former Rennes midfielder posted on Instagram and revealed that he had phoned Sunderland, but they didn't pick up.

M'Vila spent a season on loan in 2015/16 and made 37 Premier League appearances as Sunderland avoided relegation. After his Deadline Day permanent move to Sunderland collapsed, he returned to his parent club Rubin Kazan.

However Sunderland were keen on making the deal happen in January and chief executive Martin Bain revealed that an agreement had been in place for M'Vila to return to the Stadium of Light on a three-and-a-half-year deal when the transfer window reopened.

Yet in a statement published on Sunderland's official website, he also informed fans that M'Vila no longer wanted to join Sunderland and after consulting with David Moyes, the deal has been scrapped.

He said:

"I was contacted this week by Yann M'Vila's representatives, who advised that the player no longer wishes to join Sunderland.

"There was a three-and-a-half-year agreement in place, however after discussions with the manager we have decided not to enforce the contract. Any player that we bring to Sunderland Football Club must be wholly committed.

"Yann M'Vila will therefore not be joining us in January and we wish him well for the future."

A change of heart for the Frenchman...
